Understanding the OCVL's Ladder System
Quick SummaryTeams are broken down throughout each Division into groups (brackets) of 4 teams playing a 2 week cycle.
The team that wins both its matches over the 2 week cycle will move up to the next 4 team bracket The 2 teams that split their matches (i.e. one win and one loss) over the 2 week cycle will remain in the same bracket (and will be joined by 2 new teams) The team that loses both its matches over the 2 week cycle will drop down to the next 4 team bracket
Detailed ExplanationAt the beginning of each 2 week cycle, each Division is broken down into groups of 4 teams. Week 1
Team 1 plays Team 2
The winner of Team 1 versus Team 2 becomes Team 1 (note that if Team 1 wins they remain Team 1)
The winner of Team 3 versus Team 4 becomes Team 2
Week 2
Team 1 plays Team 2
The winner of Team 1 versus Team 2 moves up to become Team 4 in the next "bracket" (or Tier) of 4 teams In summary: Every 2nd week, the teams in positions 1 and 4 of the 4 team bracket HOLD their positions to allow them to play either the winning team from the bottom "rung" of the bracket or the losing team from the top "rung" of the bracket, thereby eliminating the creation of two separate "streams" of teams.
Example using the ladder system
Team 1 = Sky Smashers The Week 1 schedule is as follows:
The Week 1 results are as follows:
Sky Smashers defeats Spikers The following week's rankings (Week 2 Schedule) becomes:
The Week 2 results are as follows:
Sky Smashers defeats Volley This (Sky Smashers therefore moves up to the next 4 team bracket) The revised rankings for the following week (Week 3 in this example) are:
